Our village Gala Day was organised on the 2nd September 2006.
Hamiltonsbawn Primary School was invited to choose a theme for the day, and the winning idea was "Under The Sea". The school children all assisted in making a wonderful murual which was used to decorate the marquee.
The parade through the village was lead by Hamiltonsbawn Silver Band, with the float following closely behind. The float was designed by the children who had spent evenings and weekends constructing the mainframe, with the use of the trailer being kindly supplied by NC Engineering. It was a colourful display of our children's artwork, with Neptune and two mermaids taking centreplace. There was a good turnout of locals to watch the parade, even though the weather was dismal.
Upon reaching the marquee, the crowds were treated to a dancing display, a magician show and a musical interlude by The Royal Irish Rangers Pipe Band. There was a variety of stalls for the crowds to browse at, and cups of tea and home baking on sale.
The Young children were delighted when the sun finally made an appearance as the Fire Safety crew allowed them in their specially adapted fire engine. This vehicle has been modified for these type of shows, where the children are all taught about fire safety with the use of a safety dvd, leaflets, and being allowed to wear firemans outfits and helmets.
The day was rounded off with a dance in the marquee during the evening. A wonderful buffet, the highlight being two "pigs on spits" being served, was greatly appreciated by all. The musical accompaniment during dinner was "The Bawn Folk Group", with the evenings dancing set to a varied set by the band "The Brokers."
